Faction Name: Hekatonkheires
Faction Type: Nuclear-age deep space machines.
Physical Description: The Hekatonkheires or "hundred-handed ones" are without true form or structure, a conglomeration of psuedo-sentient artificial intelligences stored on massive, entirely mechanical ALUs, located in the spaces between the stars.
Hekatonkheires are never individuals in the strictest sense, but can be copied onto solid-state platforms (spacecraft and specialized robots) in order to leave the main hub and interact with the rest of the universe.
History: <Will fill out later>
Interaction: Hekatonkheires adopt figures and themes from classical mythology in interactions with sentients, typically those of damned mortals or titans. These facilitate interaction but are also a deep-rooted influence on the Hekatons as a whole--a recursive artifact of the ALU's calculations, and a driving function behind their actions in general.
Planets: Hekatonkheires reside primarily in the underworld, Tartarus, the cold abyss between stars. Large bases include planetary-sized mechanical ALUs and a variety of mobile industrial bases, such as hollowed out planets, moons and asteroids.
Six deep space ALU megastructures; Five planetary industrial bases; countless small industrial asteroid bases and shipyards.
Technology: Hekatonkheires lack means of FTL travel, but ships and bases can communicate instantaneously, provided they have an ansible (quantum connection).
Spaceflight is handled primarily through pulsed fusion (Orion) drives, with the smallest ships using charges of 10-15 kilotons, and the largest ships massing charges of over 50 megatons. Solar sails, torchdrives and mass drivers are also used, but typically only on drones or ordinance.
Deuterium/Tritium fusion is used for power generation on larger ships and bases, U-235 fission on smaller ships, robots and drones.
Many larger ships are built around giant telsa coils, capable of generating massive electromagnetic fields. These can be used as thrusters, or weapons.
Sensors are primarily spectroscopic and optical.
Some of the largest ships can launch drones via mass drives. These come in two types: optical and EM. Optical drones are optical amplification devices, useful for delivering lasers remotely, and to minimize decibel losses caused from transmitting through vacuum. EM drones are much smaller, and generate electromagnetic fields.
Most computer systems are optical or mechanical, not electrical.
Manufacturing, metallurgical and optical sciences are very advanced.
Defenses: Hekaton ships typically carry large amounts of ferrous dust on-board. They can deploy this dust and suspend it with electromagnetic fields, providing an ablative shield.
The armor and pusher plates of Hekaton ships are composed of tungsten carbide with layers of depleted uranium and trace quantities of iridium. Chassis is primarily steel. Some of the largest ships are equipped with a secondary tungsten plate, which is held and positioned by electromagnets.
Weapons: Nukes. From small propulsion charges in the kilotons, to planet-cracking gigaton fusion bombs. Mass drivers and railguns (used primarily for deployment, not combat). Bomb-pumped lasers and casaba howitzers. Flak cannons (usually defensive). Electromagnetic weapon systems (bomb-pumped and otherwise).
Hekaton ships have no visible radiators and have trouble venting heat (they are not particularly vulnerable to thermal damage, however). All optical weapon systems are one-time use devices which are ejected after firing.
Military Forces:
Land forces are typically fabricated on the spot and tailor-made to the combat situation. Most designs tend to be specialized and ruthlessly efficient.
The larger craft tend to have much higher thrust velocity and acceleration than the smaller ships. No Hekaton ships are specifically designed for combat in mind, and most lack dedicated weapon systems. Ship sizes range from 10 meter RKVs to 8-kilometer Orion battleships. Mobile foundries can be much, much larger.

Larger craft with dedicated weapon systems are equipped with considerable ordinance (nuclear missiles and drones).

Standing armies tend to be small, and composed primarily of larger ships (smaller ships are easier to construct, and are built when needed).
