Species Name: Vulojalon
Physiological Description:
The Vulojalon are a race of large, bipedal, proto-mammals similar in nature to therapsids. Though egg-laying, they have glandular skin and are warm blooded. They have large, chitinous plates on their backs and extremities, which in addition to serving as armor can be flushed with blood to raise their body temperature, or as emotive displays. Many of their senses are underdeveloped; for instance, they can only perceive the color spectrum from yellow to blue, they have no external ear structure, and they can only taste exceptionally strong flavors. The exception to this rule is their powerful sense of smell, and because of this most of their communication is through either body language or pheromones. They are primarily carnivores, though may also consume fruits and certain vegetables if the need arises. They typically stand between 6ft and 9ft tall, and weigh between 200 and 400 pounds on average. There is very little sexual dimorphism between male and female Vulojalons, usually only a subtle difference in size, coloration, and pheromones.
Native Culture:
The Vulojalon are a race evolved to be solitary hunters; in fact, families of Vulojalon working together in a tribe is a fairly recent development, only a few thousand years old. As a race, they have always valued personal skill over any other trait, to the point that the only way to gain social status is by advancing the tribe or stealing the credit for another's advancements. This attitude of the self over everything is reflected in the race's constant small scale bloodshed. Families of Vulojalon can and do feud for generations. Paradoxically, it is because of their self-centered attitudes that these conflicts almost never escalate into warfare. No one else cares enough to join in.

In terms of religion, Vulojalon believe that the universe is a physical manifestation of God, and that gathering information about the universe is the only way to become closer to God. As such, scientist are held in high regard and often are leaders of their respective tribes. Before this worship of the universe as a whole, the Vulojalon practiced ancestor worship, because it was thought nothing was worthy of a Vulojalon's respect except its ancestors. A few Vulojalon continue to practice this ancestor worship, but it is few and far between. Neither the worship of the universe or the worship of ancestors is centralized or codified, leading to wild differences in rituals and worship from one tribe to the next.

One of the most important rituals of the Vulojalon and one of the only rituals practiced by almost every tribe is the passage of a youth into adulthood. A youth is expected to go out into the wilderness and survive for as long as it can without outside help, from either other Vulojalon or technology. Typically this challenge last for two weeks, but it is not unheard of for the youth to remain in isolation for up to a year. The practice of hunting for sport is also highly ritualized, though rarely will any one ritual be practiced by two tribes.

Faction Name: Coalition of Selected Tribal Powers/CSTP
Faction Type:Tribal Coalition
Species:Vulojalon
Planets:
Pavonir: Home world, and their only industrial center. Despite housing nearly ten billion souls it has startlingly low population density, typically no more than ten people per square kilometer. What cities do exist on the surface are jointly owned and operated industrial centers, the result of lengthy negotiations between tribal coalitions about what gets placed where, and who runs what. Pavonir measures slightly under one billion square kilometers, making it nearly double the size of Earth.
Jittnir: Rocky moon of Pavonir, primarily used for mining and research. The lunar facility was the first joint project by the CTSP, and it has been wildly successful. It has served as a testing ground for dangerous research and provided new opportunities for mining.
Aramisia: Major military base on a planetoid at the very edge of their home system. It was chosen because Aramisia's orbit allows the garrison here to reasonably reach any part of the system quickly. Houses the CSTP's only Capital class ship and two of its three destroyers.
Culture:
Their main cultural export is music, which focuses largely on evoking a physical neurological reaction through brainwave synchronization rather than sounding pleasant. It is customary for a guest or diplomat to bring a gift as a form of tribute, typically something that would be valuable to the host's entire tribe rather than something of personal significance. Tools and technology are always appreciated, though more powerful tools and rarer technology are expected for larger tribes. The primary religion is the Vulojalon worship of the universe as a whole, though a significant portion of the population is nonreligious and a small percentage practice ancestor worship. They have no minted currency, transactions either use a universal digital currency called the Daen or use the barter system. Typically barter is more valuable than the Daen, though it varies by transaction.
Technology:
Highest Available Tech:
Antimatter Power Plants
Chemistry 4
Particles 4
Kinetics 4
Antimatter power plants focus on harnessing the energy released by matter/antimatter reactions. They can be built large enough to power several metropolises or small enough to power a single fighter. Because of the nature of antimatter, the housing for the power plants must be built of incredibly dense alloys, and must have facilities capable of launching antimatter ammunition at incredible speeds.

Average Available Tech:
High-speed Maglev Trains
Kinetics 4
Fields 2
The primary method of transportation within the atmosphere. They use frictionless materials combined with powerful magnets to reach speeds of up to 3,000m/s

Lowest Available Tech:
Sensor Suites
Data 2
Fields 2
Using top of the line computers and directed EM Radiation CSTP scanners can determine the contents of a ship's hold from 10km away or provide a rudimentary map of a planet's surface.

Other Tech:
Frictionless Railgun
Chemistry 4
Kinetics 3
Fields 2

The primary means of ship-to-ship weaponry used by the CSTP. It propels a five kilogram slug along twenty meters of magnetic rails coated in a frictionless material using a propellant derived from octanitrocubane. A much bulkier version of this weapon aboard Capital-class ships use the same technology used in FTL engines to turn these slugs into Relativistic Kill Vehicles.

Antimatter Torpedoes
Particles 4
Kinetics 2
Fields 2

A simple ship-to-ship torpedo containing five grams of antimatter suspended by magnets in a vacuum chamber. When it impacts another ship, the vacuum chamber is broken open and the antimatter detonates, producing a 2.15 megaton explosion.

Point Defense Ion Beams
Particles 4
Data 2
The main defensive structure aboard large CSTP ships, and the primary fighter weapon. Uses a focused beam of ions to detonate torpedoes before they impact or destroy small craft. As point defense weapons, they're automated to target anything not broadcasting a CSTP identification.

Biology 3
Chemistry 4
Data 2
Fields 2
Kinetics 4
Particles 4

They typically achieve FTL using inertialess drives fueled by matter/antimatter reactions.
Military Forces:
1 Capital class ship: Measures 5km long and has room for 100 fighters, OR 1 Destroyer OR 2 Corvettes OR 4 frigates. Minimum crew of 350, recommended crew of 500.
70 Destroyer class ships: Measure 2km long, have room for 40 fighters. Minimum crew of 100, recommended crew of 200.
160 Corvette class ships: Measure 1km long, have room for 20 fighters. Minimum crew of 30, recommended crew of 120.
400 Frigates: Measure .5km long, have room for 5 fighters. Minimum crew of 25, recommended crew of 80.
~1000 Fighters/Personal Craft: Measure between 10 meters and 400 meters. Minimum crew of 1, maximum crew of 20.
~120,000 Ship-board marines.
~14,000,000 ground troops, only ~4,000,000 active duty.
